Sustainability at Home – Water Conservation

water-meterSustainability at Home

Many Sustainability Leaders have asked for ways to extend sustainable practices to their homes.  An important but simple way to conserve water in your home is to check for leaks regularly.

To check for a leak in your toilet, place food coloring in your tank and see if the color leaks into the bowl.

Another way to monitor leaks is to check your water meter before leaving for the day and check it again when you return home.  If no one was home but the meter has changed, you have a leak.

If you find a leak, you should attend to it immediately – according to eartheasy.com, a dripping faucet could waste up to 20 gallons of water per day.
