Yale’s Sustainability Leaders are a network of employees from different departments and offices who are committed to promoting Yale’s sustainability efforts and creating sustainable workplaces on both the medical and central campuses. The Sustainability Leaders Program, which began in the fall of 2007 with only twelve individuals, has expanded to a group of almost fifty individuals representing forty-three different departments. The Sustainability Leaders strive to create innovate solutions to meet their office’s sustainability goals, educate their co-workers about the importance and ease of adopting sustainable office practices, and promote participation in Yale’s sustainability initiatives. Projects led by current Sustainability Leaders have ranged from switching from 5-gallon bottled water systems to filtered water systems to ordering mugs for their co-workers to installing motion-sensor lighting in their buildings. Once a month the Sustainability Leaders meet to receive updates and information on Yale’s sustainability initiatives and to discuss the progress and challenges within their individual offices.
